With Platte being canceled my people had free Saturday on their hands, some choose to ride their road bikes, some chose to ride dirt in St. Joseph. I opted for waffles and gravel, Megan and I usually don’t see each other on Saturdays, either racing or Megan’s coaching/teaching obligations put us on different schedules. Knowing that Saturday morning was free and being inspired by Daily Grub’s waffles from last Sunday meal. Well making waffles is what we did 1/2 and 1/2 of all purpose flour and buckwheat flour made for some good waffles and good company. The tube was turned to Giro and I was dreaming of frites with mayo yum.
JP got to my house around 11:00 am for some Loess Hill goodness. Just like rest of the area the winter has not been kind to the gravel roads in Mills county. New rock and minimal farming equipment use made the first 10 miles a bit bumpy. Eventually we go passed the new gravel and road some better groomed gravel. The hills are great you can see a lot of interesting things while roaming around.

Old school Barn, I believe that was made of horses to haul in the load to be stored.

Yes that’s winery I don’t know about the wine. Let’s hope it a bit better when their website

That is a sweet sing and yes when you biking it’s easy to have zip-a-doo-dee-dah day
We came back to Omaha via 375 toll bridge. Now I don’t know who Steve exon is, nor do I live in Bellevue but any leader who gives you ice cream must be paid attention too. So yeah thank you Steve exon, I don’t know what your platform is and you do look a bit creepy but free ice cream is always a hit. Good riding if you interested in gravel riding let me know. That’s what I will be going for next 3 weeks.
P.s. the bike is now dk ready. The kenda komando tires and slime tubes made it on to the bike last night.
Well Swanson race came and went. It was perfect conditions for the race. I did line up at start line of marathon event. I didn’t know how to the events will unfold. There was a lot of experience in first row all seasoned endurance riders Cornbread, MG, and the little mustachio buddy EB. Throw in couple of of cat 1 guys in mix and you have pretty steep competition. I really didn’t have great expectations, I knew I would do better than bone bender as I didn’t spend day before building earthen structures. I also knew in order to even see top guys you have to go pretty hard for first couple of laps. (Side note when Ryan says the course will be in perfect condition he means it will be perfect at 12 pm not at 10 am) First lap as pretty fast and greasy I managed to slide out maybe 1 minute after EB went Big Toes up on greasy corner. Order of things settled I think I was in 7th place. And more importantly 2nd place in self proclaimed stache prime. After first lap I passed two guys and I was in 5th place 30 seconds behind EB. The laps turned and positioning didn’t change, I passed Ryan Atkinson on 5th lap and got passed by some dude flying swoobo jersey. I wanted to be be as far from the woods as possible when cat 1 race started. Mission accomplished. Kent was the first one to pass me up and then out of nowhere MOD pulled like minute behind him, wow that was out of nowhere, what was even more surprising is the fact that after mark Came through there was no one else for about 30-45 seconds, wow dude impressive. It got close to 3 hour mark I think I made the cut off by 4-5 minutes. The judge said you have time for one more, without hesitation I threw all my gels and electrolyte containers out and proceeded to to go out for one more lap. The sense of urgency quickly disappeared as I saw the guy who was about minute back sit up and look at his watch, yup that’s all the clues I needed he was done and chance of anyone coming behind him were pretty much nil. I did a slow cool down lap talked to some people jumped my bike. Wondered where the hell is brunt but pretty much put in the slowest lap of the day just chilling. After I got past the finish line I was informed that yes mr. modest, Corey has indeed won the category. Brunt flatted and MG had some issues with digestion. That put me in fourth or maybe fifth, sweet bacon sweet bacon indeed. Not bad for going against pretty much all cat 1 guys.
Congrats on the win Corey, Kent, Joshua and on 2nd place for single speeding MOD. Later that night we drank beer and talked about bikes and shredded some rock band guitars. Good times. Sunday MK and made our wish list. Who knew it was such long ordeal. Not me..

Last week I attended MMS, that’s right a giant nerd meeting about SCCM, windows 7 /2008 r2 and MDK. Yes that is what I do on daily basis pretty sweet huh? It was good time, and as much as I the title would suggest I really do hate Vegas, It’s pinnacle of exploitation and capitalism at it worst. The worst part is staying at one of these Mega plexes of resort, I believe I spend 48 hours inside without seeing the outside, everything was packaged for “convenience” and maximum disruption of your money. No thank you, I hope MMS moves back to San Diego soon. I did learn a lot of thing and overall it was great time sans the lack of outdoors. The flights back on friday afternoon were delayed but the same weather pattern lingered over the middle of the country bumpy foggy not cool. But eventually late, late Friday I got home. I knew I needed both outdoors and bike time. I rounded up Megan and headed out to woods for some Morel hunting. In short they are out in force go and get some while you can…
After wedding planning party I decided to head south on bike, how far south did I got, far enough to see this. Awesome buddy awesome. I guess happiness is raising pit bulls and living in trail home. That’s Mmmmmmerican.

I think this picture says it all there you have it… it was fun

Last night’s TNR was a small groups with some people out of town other had different commitments, but good group of people still showed up. Including Joshua and his lady friend. I read somewhere that Josh wanted to try fs 29er I looked at his bike and offered mine for spin at Tranquility. We both have different experiences. I haven’t ridden rigid fork for while. Someone might say the riding downhill is the toughest part for me it’s turning the rigid fork provides different kind of feedback when leaning into corner, it was interesting experience to say the least. Not in bad way, now I’m missing riding a hardtail.
When I got home ironically the Buddha show was playing once again, I say that as Larry and I were just talking about the program earlier during the ride as well as my tribute to riding rigid and meaning of suffering, oh snap…. If you get a chance you should watch it sometimes. Good times for sure…. IMBA weekend is upon us see you at adams park

Just like that my rear hub on my commuter stopped working. It happened on top of the hill on way back from jewel Time trial. Riding up the hill I heard two pops and then the wheel stopped moving at all. Now I knew my bearings were going bad and I ordered a pair from Trek Omaha and was hoping that the old one will hold out for couple of weeks. After taking the hub apart the worst have happened the bearing balls just fell and bounce around on the floor, two bearings disintegrated the outer shells were stuck in the hub that took some convincing for remove them. So I’m bike less for whenever my new hub parts arrive here. Well that sucks…. My little brother is in town and that means couple of things

- Mario Kart Wii Championships

Good times for sure and it’s nice to give him a beat down once in while. Yesterday I decided to head south to glenwood for some loess hills loving. Good times 65 miles in 3:40 not to bad considering the wind and the snack at Glenwood. The rain stayed away…
